Wags & Whiskers Wednesday (#19)

Happy Wednesday!

This week has been especially exciting in my house.  My mom and her husband (finally!) decided to go on a vacation (Washington, D.C.) and left their baby, Scarlett, with me.  My husband and I were eager to see how Buffy would react to another pooch in the house – we are definitely ready to add another dog to our family.  The experiment was far from perfect, though, these two gals have already spent quite a bit of time together.  (Not like inviting a stranger in!)  My mom, more than little overprotective of her mini dachshund, was sure there would be problems and the proverbial “fur would fly”.

The only one that has had a problem with this week’s arrangement?  ME!

Buffy is so mellow and easy going…sometimes it baffles me (even though we put a lot of time and effort hoping to raise her just so.)  I figured, though, after a day or two she might get jealous of another dog getting my affection.  Nope!  Not my Buffy.  I thought Scarlett might be constantly jumping in my lap, kissing my face, rolling over for tummy rubs in an attempt to claim her spot as #1 dog of the house.  Hasn’t happened!  If anything, my husband is getting more attention from the girls than I am!  I feel like I’m living the stereotype – Mom does all the necessary things (feed/walk/potty)…but Dad is the “fun one”!

This week, Wags and Whiskers Houston (@WandWHouston) hit the milestone of 1,000 followers on Twitter!  What an accomplishment!  At  the same time, the blog has been gaining more followers and getting more views with every passing week.  Most exciting for me personally, though, is that I am able to share my experience and knowledge of dogs with you.  The great thing about the internet is that the communication is not just a one way street.  I read every comment, email, Tweet, and wall post.  Not only do I find myself learning from your experiences, but I also am learning what I need to learn more about!

Wags & Whiskers Wednesday (#2)

Yay!  You are halfway through your week!

This week, I have fallen in love with Twitter all over again.  I didn’t quite finish my holiday/end of year “to do” list by 2012…but in an attempt to not fall behind in the first month of the new year, I have slowly been crossing off last year’s tasks.  “Clean up Twitter Account” was one of those things left undone.  I started with the intention to weed out those annoying people who don’t ever post (how this is even possible is beyond me!) and make sure I was following all the people I should be.  What it turned into was hours and hours of finding new dog and cat lovers to connect with, new products to try, undiscovered websites, and dozens and dozens of TwitPics that people had posted of their sleeping dogs. (Is there anything better than a picture of an adorable sleeping dog?!?)  I highly recommend spending some time getting lost in Twitter.  (Oh, and be sure you are following us while you are wondering!)

YOUR DOG LOVES TREATS! (and we are giving them away FREE!)

We here at Wags & Whiskers – the blog, the dog walkers, and the bakery – are SO excited about our new dog treats!  No really, I don’t think you understand.  We spent weeks perfecting our recipes to make sure that the treats were nutritionally perfect and deliciously munchable.  After trial and error (and lots of big messes in our kitchen) we have put two varieties – Love Bites and Peanut Butter Pumpkin Bones – on Etsy for you to purchase.  We’ve had a great response from our current clients (who are the best in the world, thank you!), but we are now looking to expand to all of you (you being the dog lovers outside of the Houston/Cypress area!)

So here is what we are going to do: We are going to give out our treats for FREE!  Yes for FREE (no shipping and handling, no processing fees, no nothing!)  Absolutely FREE!  We do need your help, though. Here is what you have to do:

In the next two weeks (July 24-Aug 7) help spread the word about our new treats!  There are two ways you can do this:

• “Like” our brand-spankin’ new page on Facebook: Wags & Whiskers Houston Facebook Page.  Post something on your wall (just click Facebook button on the bottom of this post) for an extra chance to win!

• Tweet a comment, a link  to our Etsy page(http://www.etsy.com/listing/77815836/love-bites-dog-treats or http://www.etsy.com/listing/77814833/peanut-butter-pumpkin-bones) or a link to this blog post (just click that little birdie at the bottom!) Make sure to include @WandWHouston in your tweet so we can see what you have to say!

You can enter up to three times per day (if you want to like our page, write on our wall, and tweet!)  We will then assign each comment about our treats and each “like” a number (based on the order they were posted) and use a random generator to pick TWO winners the week of August 8th.  We will also select  (at least) 5 other people (depending on how many yummy treats we have!) to receive sample sizes of our goodies.  We will contact you (via whichever social media site you posted your comment on) to get the address where we should send these whisker lickin’ bites.  (and NO you will not then be on a mailing list where we send you loads of junk mail!)
