Wags & Whiskers Wednesday (#34)

Happy mid-week!

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week?  After that – all the holiday craziness will break loose.  Did you know that Americans will spend about 5 billion dollars on their pets this holiday season?  Sounds crazy, right? But everyone I know buys gifts for their dogs and cats.  I always buy presents for my mom’s pup, and she buys them for mine.  What do you think – do we spend too much on our pets?

Here at the Wags & Whiskers blog, we are hard at work trying to find you the best deals from pet retailers around the country.  If you have your own bakery, pet supply store, specialty boutique, or shop on Etsy and would like to be included in this year’s Wags & Whiskers Paw-liday deals…shoot us an email (blog@wagsandwhiskershouston.com)  Make sure to include your contact information and website – and we will send you all the details.

But before you start stressing about your grocery list for next week (and where the heck is that recipe for your grandma’s pumpkin pie!) – take a look at these cuties.  Guaranteed to brighten your day!

Our Twitter friend Leslie (@walkiesdoggies) and owner of Walkies Doggies (check out their website www.walkiesdoggies.com) sent us this pic of her husky Mara Jade. “She’s a goofball!” Leslie told us…as if we couldn’t tell!

Blog reader Paula emailed us this pic of her family member, Hanna. Hanna is often mistaken for a puppy, despite being over a year old. We hear she is always getting compliments on her beauty when she is out walking…we can see why!

Wanted to throw in one kitty pic! I snapped this myself at a client’s house Make sure to follow me on Instagram if you aren’t already!

Happy 10/10! Thank goodness we are already halfway through our week!

Yesterday, my fellow-walker (who just happens to be my mom!) took her beloved Scarlett in for her yearly check-up with the vet. Scarlett is very

Sweet Scarlett

energetic – loving her walks and eager to greet everyone who walks in her front door – so it came as a shock when the vet informed my mom that she was having some irregularities with her heart. Other than referring her to a cardiologist who will run more test, there was not much else that could be immediately done. Needless to say, we are all upset by the news…although I assured my mom we should not jump to any conclusions before we get a specialist to interpret lab results. Have any of you been through something like this? I would love to hear your stories….and know how you dealt with the stress (on you and your dog), drama, and expense.

But enough sad news…let’s get to the pictures! How fun that both of them are kitties this week. I love it when that happens!! Meet two of our new furry friends and don’t forget you too can get your pet featured in our Wags & Whiskers Wednesday posts. (Read about how here.)

Meet Wasabi! Not only is this guy absolutely adorable…he is one-of-a-kind! He loves taking showers, and he is even toilet trained! Thanks to our Twitter friend @debbie_stywt for sharing Wasabi with us!

Here is our second feline friend of the week, Reily. Blog reader Sara sent this picture in of her “feisty” kitty. Apparently, Reily will chase after just about anything…string, toys, even shoe laces!

Wags & Whiskers Wednesday (#30)

Happy first Wednesday of fall!  (I’m ready for those cooler temperatures, Houston!)

As many of you read in our post about heartworm, I recently took a trip to the Houston SPCA.  I could not believe how many gorgeous animals – puppies and adults alike, purebred and mixed breeds – were there in cages.  People like us (I am assuming you are like me, dear reader) just cannot comprehend condemning a member of our family to that fate.  I cannot think of any circumstance that I would put myself in that would require me to give up my beloved Buffy…but if that horrifying moment ever did occur, I surely would hand select a trusted family member or friend to assume responsibility of parenthood.  Buffy is 100% a member of my family.

Like many other families, mine has quite a few framed pictures scattered about each room.  Most of the rooms in our house contain at least one picture of Buffy.  The only thing I regret about these pictures – I am no photographer!  I have even looked into having professional portraits of Buffy taken (don’t tell my mom!), but let’s be real – this dog walker doesn’t have hundreds of extra dollars lying around…no matter how cute the pictures are sure to be.  That’s why when I received submissions from Slick Click Photography for this week’s W & W Wednesday post, I was skeptical when they shared a link to the “affordablepet portrait page of their site.  I nearly died when I saw the packages started at $60.  And…as you can see from their pictures below (and on their website!) they know what they are doing.

(On a non-pet related topic, they also offer Las Vegas Tourist sessions where they will photograph you on the Strip or at other Vegas landmarks while you are in town on vacation.  How cool is that?!)

But you want to see some of those Slick Click gorgeous pictures!!!!

Just in time for Halloween – this is Morgue! Named after the haunted house she was found next to 13 years ago. What a face!

If you can’t tell, Bella is a fan of her ball. (We here she never puts it down…and we mean NEVER!) What a great keepsake – a photo of your pet with their favorite toy!

Wags & Whiskers Wednesday – Submission Guidelines

Wednesday has become the most popular day on the blog – because that’s the day we feature YOUR felines and Fidos!  Wags & Whiskers Wednesday is fun for us – we get to see how adorable all our readers’ pets are!  WWW (as we like to call it around here!) is fun for you too – your pet will be famous and you can pass along the link to all your family & friends.

How do you get your furbaby featured on our fabulous blog?  It’s easy!

**Email submissions to blog@wagsandwhiskershouston.com.  Make sure to include your pet’s name…and feel free to include any information to help us get to know your pet better.  (“That’s Bella with her favorite toy!” or “Baxter loves his bed!”)

**Do you have a pet blog of your own?  Follow us on Twitter?  Sell treats on Etsy?  Be sure to include that info too!  We would love to give you a shout out (and get more info about you!  Once we know more about you, we’ll realize how awesome you are and might want to feature you in a future post!)

**We try to include all submissions in the next Wednesday’s post, but sometimes we just get too darn many!   We will send you an email to confirm we received your pic and another email with the link once your puppy or kitty goes viral.

**Once you send us your pic, we have the right to use it to promote the blog and Wags & Whiskers Wednesday.  This means using it on Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, and our website (among other social media sites.)  Don’t worry – we aren’t going to do anything crazy!  But we might think your pup is so cute we want to feature him again.

The best part?  This give you an excuse to look through all those old, adorable pictures!  So find the pic packed with the most cuteness and send it on over to blog@wagsandwhiskershouston.com.  We can’t wait to see them!!
